The HIA European Programs

June 1 - July 5 (Americans convene May 30)
The European programs focus on three interrelated areas of contemporary and historic importance:
- Current minority and human rights issues in the host countries
- The development of international human rights institutions and doctrines in the aftermath of WW II & the Holocaust, with particular emphasis on minority issues
- Examples of resistance to the Holocaust

HIA American Program: Diversity & Democracy
New York City, July 7 - August 11, 2007
(Selected Berlin Internships: August-November)
The American Program explores diverse perspectives on four interrelated areas of contemporary and historic importance:
- How Americans understand, practice, and manage diversity
- Contemporary debates over immigration, race, religion, ethnicity and the responsibilities of private and public sectors in addressing these issues
- The social, legal, cultural, economic, religious and political resources available to those who advocate a more inclusive and participatory democracy
- US obligations and participation in international human rights institutions
