Over 200 Participants Gathered in Amsterdam for HIA’s First Annual International Conference
Fellows, Senior Fellows, Board Members and friends of HIA joined together for three days of an intense and inspiring program.

The program included:
- discussions, workshops, film screenings, and the opportunity to meet nearly 200 outstanding young leaders in the HIA community;
- Presentations from leading academics and activists, politicians and journalists, artists and scientists — each sharing their vision and perspectives on human rights and the challenges of diverse societies;
- Workshops on new media, nonprofit fundraising, career planning, social entrepreneurship, and strategies for nonviolent civil resistance;
- The presentation of the first HIA International Awards to Peter B. Edelman from the United States and Ed van Thijn from the Netherlands;
- Small group discussions on reconciliation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the resurgence of political extremism, anti-Semitism, lessons for young activists, national security policy, religion and human rights, migration policy, and more.
