Our community takes action to defend democratic values around the world. Explore our Fellows' Action Projects here.
In the 11 months following the on-site Fellowship program, our Fellows work on their Action Project: an independent venture focused on promoting democratic values in their own communities. Action Projects are as diverse as Humanity in Action Fellows. Fellows apply their new knowledge and perspectives to the communities they impact—in whatever format they find meaningful. The Humanity in Action community is a great resource for getting support—be it with contacts, experience or good advice. Immersive Audio Tour of San Francisco's Western Addition
As her Action Project, Senior Fellow Gabrielle Santas built "Returning to the Harlem of the West", an app-based audio tour exploring Japanese Americans' return to San Francisco after internment.

Fellows Rachel Bell and Alex Rossen founded Zikaron, a project committed to mending historical trauma in the 21st century through activism and storytelling.

The festival explored the societal effects of the wars in Bosnia, Kosovo and Ukraine through film screenings and following panel discussions

Boston Busing Blues
Landecker Democracy Fellow Wilhemina’s project is an oral history account of the forced busing and desegregation of the Boston Public School system; the resistance of white parents to having their schools admit students of color; and the moment of racial rapture, which has become unacknowledged within the cultural and institutional memories of the city.

Sebene’s Landecker Democracy Fellowship project aims to promote social cohesion and tackle xenophobia in Greece by fostering a public discussion about the importance of migration in our society and by giving more positive visibility to migrant communities.

Armin’s project, Carceral Marronage: Mapping Confinement and Rebellion in the Golden State, draws on his current research on the role of systems of mass incarceration, namely prisons, in sustaining forms of social and economic inequality initiated by colonization.

Colonial Dialogue - Weekend Workshop
Creating a constructive dialogue for and with Danish youth about privileges, prejudices, and post-colonialism, in relation to the Danish, Greenlandic and Faroe Islands shared History. Senior Fellows William Nordmark Nielsen and Sofie Malm Henriksen hosted a day of workshops and lectures for students at Grundtvigs Højskole north of Copenhagen.
