Our community takes action to defend democratic values around the world. Explore our Fellows' Action Projects here.
In the 11 months following the on-site Fellowship program, our Fellows work on their Action Project: an independent venture focused on promoting democratic values in their own communities. Action Projects are as diverse as Humanity in Action Fellows. Fellows apply their new knowledge and perspectives to the communities they impact—in whatever format they find meaningful. The Humanity in Action community is a great resource for getting support—be it with contacts, experience or good advice. “In Conversation with... Angela Davis”
In her Action Project, Lamisa Mustafa is building on the activist work she has already been doing at her university. The conversation with Dr. Angela Davis is just one of many events organized by Lamisa as part of the larger effort by the SMU’s Human Rights Council to advance and ensure racial justice on and off campus.

Civic Mobility
Landecker Democracy Fellow Erica Dorn is a social systems choreographer. She educates and facilitates organizations, movements, and communities in long-vision systems transitions. Her project aims to create a proof of concept for bridging political divides by building networks between autonomous places that are experiencing diverse economic and social issues

The Catalyst Commissions Protect Democracy Edition
Landecker Democracy Fellow Sharon M. Chin is the Executive Director and Founder of Creative Sanctum. A digital magazine focused on amplifying the behind-the-scenes creative processes of artists, Creative Sanctum also empowers artists as activists. Sharon seeks to implement community-driven commissioned artwork to mobilize community voices in protecting democracy.

Monumental Histories: Black Archival Practice and the Interpretation of Racist Visual Culture
Landecker Democracy Fellow Tsione Wolde-Michael is a Curator of African American Social Justice History at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. This project will engage young archaeologists, community members, and local activists to creatively address the current challenges and strategically diversify the field of heritage work.

Cross-Cultural Solidarity - A Raisin in the Sun
Landecker Democracy Fellow Asha Iman Veal explores cross-cultural solidarity across communities that are often kept apart by geographic or political distance. She is the organizer for a contemporary art exhibition that explores and reactivates global interpretations of the classic story A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry.

COVID-19: Misinformation Media Campaign for the Public and Toolkit for Providers
Landecker Democracy Fellow Asha Shajahan, MD, MHSA is a primary care physician, the Graduate Medical Education Director of Social Equity and Health Disparities at Beaumont Health and the Medical Director of Community Health at Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe in the USA. Asha proposes to equip doctors with a fact-checking tool that can help guide evidence-based outcomes and advice.

The Reading Shade is a community-driven initiative to provide books and a reading space for kids in Bunyala who lack alternative learning resources during the pandemic.
