Our community takes action to defend democratic values around the world. Explore our Fellows' Action Projects here.
In the 11 months following the on-site or virtual Fellowship program, our Fellows work on their Action Project: an independent venture focused on promoting democratic values in their own communities. Action Projects are as diverse as Humanity in Action Fellows. Fellows apply their new knowledge and perspectives to the communities they impact—in whatever format they find meaningful. The Humanity in Action community is a great resource for getting support—be it with contacts, experience or good advice. The conversation with Dr. Angela Davis is just one of many events organized by Lamisa as part of the larger effort by the SMU’s Human Rights Council to advance and ensure racial justice on and off campus.

Landecker Democracy Fellow Erica Dorn is a social systems choreographer. She educates and facilitates organizations, movements, and communities in long-vision systems transitions. Her project aims to create a proof of concept for bridging political divides by building networks between autonomous places that are experiencing diverse economic and social issues

Landecker Democracy Fellow Jeannette Gusko is a system change leader, a social justice and gender equality advocate and a civil society champion. Her project focuses on fostering transformational competence for democratic coalitions.

H.A.R.T.A (Housing Affordability in Real Terms Act)
Landecker Democracy Fellow Nikos Vrantsis is currently an Assistant Researcher of Social Sustainability of Alternative Housing Models at the Institute of Urban Research in Uppsala. This project focuses on the mapping and identification of housing potential in rural areas, with a particular focus on inactive housing stock and abandoned resources.

Landecker Democracy Fellow Noufel Bouzenboudja is a writer and artist from North Africa who mixes art with active citizenship projects. Noufel’s project will be the creation and implementation of an online platform called #PremiereLigne to disseminate stories of Paris banlieue residents.

Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellow Nushin Isabelle Yazdani is an interaction and transformation designer, artist, and AI researcher. Nushin would like to create a digital think tank around the topics of artificial intelligence, technology, and society.

The Catalyst Commissions Protect Democracy Edition
Landecker Democracy Fellow Sharon M. Chin is the Executive Director and Founder of Creative Sanctum. A digital magazine focused on amplifying the behind-the-scenes creative processes of artists, Creative Sanctum also empowers artists as activists. Sharon seeks to implement community-driven commissioned artwork to mobilize community voices in protecting democracy.

Bricks, Not Cards: Boosting Leadership Skills for Young Activists
Landecker Democracy Fellow Tara Dickman's project aims to help the Different Leaders, a nation-wide youth group of 125 successful students and professionals from underserved backgrounds in France, to become sustainable changemakers for more inclusive, just, and sustainable societies.
