Beschikbare Psycholoog: A Website That Connects Clients With Therapists.

Article

Christophe Romein (2019 Amsterdam Fellowship) wanted to combine his academic background in psychology with a concrete action. He knew that many people with mental health issues have a hard time finding available therapists because waitlists for clinics in the Netherlands tend to be very long. He thought it would be a bit easier for these people if he combined data from multiple clinics into one simple platform.

For his Action Project, Christophe Romein created beschikbarepsycholoog.com – a website that connects clients with therapists. Christophes project aims to simplify the search for available therapists for people in need of mental healthcare. Christophe decided to create a database in which information about waiting-times and diagnoses from different clinics can be stored. Therapists can log in at any time on this platform, and change their information as necessary.

Clients that are looking for a therapist can simply visit the website and look for a therapist by selecting certain criteria. The website presents a map with markers next to a list with therapists that might be able to suit the user’s needs. This list is also ordered by wait-time, which gives the client the opportunity to find the therapist with the shortest waitlist. As a result, Christophes website enables clients to swiftly and efficiently find a therapist that suits their needs.

Several therapists and clients have already directly benefited from Christophes Action Project. Therapists have more time to focus on actual therapy, and clients will be able to more efficiently find a therapist. At the moment, Christophe is focused on getting a sufficient number of therapists onboard. He will use their feedback to create an upgraded version of the website and hopes to officially launch the new version as soon as possible.
