AI and Democracy: exploring possibilities and preventing harm

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is borderless. It has an impact on the whole of the world, but it is mostly designed in the U.S. AI creates opportunities to strengthen democracy, but if abused it could cause harm.

The situations in Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and India have all shown that algorithm bias can amplify propaganda and the rapid scaling of technology in conflict areas. Without proper consideration of the impacts, it has harmed vulnerable groups.

The goal of this project is to develop a meaningful collaboration model between tech companies, civil society, and vulnerable groups.

The goal of this project is to develop a meaningful collaboration model between tech companies, civil society, and vulnerable groups. It aims to get input on AI products from various stakeholders, especially vulnerable communities as part of the design process. In this way AI and Democracy can enhance opportunities for emerging tech, prevent abuse of platforms as AI plays an ever greater role, protect vulnerable minorities, and strengthen democracy.
