Senior Landecker Fellow Kris Coffield’s Imua Alliance sponsored three new pieces of Hawai’i legislation to strengthen protections for survivors of sexual exploitation. “All three bills are still alive as we head into the final weeks of Hawai’i’s legislative session,” Kris shared.

  • House Bill 2183 establishes safe harbor protections for survivors of sexual exploitation who seek medical or law enforcement assistance.
  • Senate Bill 2758 authorizes civil claims to be made against a business, owner, or operator of a transient accommodation, or other commercial entity that profits from sexual exploitation.
  • Senate Bill 2757 aligns state sex trafficking laws with federal law by making the commercial sexual exploitation of a minor a form of sex trafficking.

What is more, the House and Senate Bills are also supported in the media – Kris gave an interview to the Hawai’i Public Radio, Island News, and even appeared live on Hawaii News Now.
