Even the best projects come to an end at some point… This is also true for the international project “Untold Stories | Forgotten Places of Memory”. Although we still have some time to officially wrap up the project, part of our team spent the weekend of 9-11.12.2022 in Krakow and together with the participants summarized several months of joint work. It was our second meeting “in person” and, just like last time, we combined intensive work with networking and strengthening our project team. Saturday was a day of workshops, talks, presentations of participants’ mini-projects and feedback sessions. We also had the opportunity to visit one of the places of “difficult memory”, the former concentration camp KL Plaszow, with excellent tour guide Alicja Zioło.

On Sunday, during the Conference “UNTOLD HISTORIES Challenges, opportunities and tools in history and human rights education”, we invited a wider audience to join the discussion. The conference was officially opened by Monika Mazur-Rafał, President of the HIA Poland Foundation, who reminded the audience of the importance of human rights education and the role of teachers in this field. In the panel discussion, participated Agnieszka Jankowiak-Maik and participants of the project “Untold Stories | Forgotten Places of Memory”: Natalia Giemza and Aleksandra Kurowska-Susdorf. This very interesting conversation about education, activism, difficult memory and human rights was led by Larysa Michalska, project coordinator of HIA Poland.

Positive feedback, interesting conversations behind the scenes and requests for more such initiatives are the motivation for us to continue our work.

The project “Untold Stories | Forgotten Places of Memory” is carried out in cooperation with Humanity in Action Germany and Humanity in Action Netherlands.
