Landecker Fellow Lievnath Faber has been updating the Oy Vey Acts facebook page to keep people updated about neo-Nazi and fascist movements that are present today. While discussing the storming of the Capitol building in the United States, she speaks about the rise of neo-Nazi and right wing white supremacist groups, not only in America, but in Europe as well. She pointed out the inconsistency between the treatment of these right wing fanatics and that of BLM protesters last summer. Lievnath wraps up by emphasizing the need for allyship between Black and Jewish communities against white supremacy.
After the domestic terrorism attack on the Capitol, Oy Vey Acts teamed up with other activist groups to organize and anti-fascist demonstration at the Westerpark in Amsterdam. About 500 people showed up to this event. It was important for the line up of ten speakers to include the voices of marginalized groups, particularly those of Black and Jewish perspectives. Dalit Lymor, an Oy Vey activist, was included in the line up. The demonstration was cleared with the police and municipality and COVID-19 precaution measures were taken to ensure the safety of the demonstrators and the wider community.
Oy Vey is an inclusive Jewis hub located in the center of Amsterdam. Oy Vey Acts is the social justice portion of this hub.
