Three doctors, including Humanity in Action Senior Fellow Dr. Amish Dave are seeking understanding and treatment for those who are suffering from addiction. In the Seattle Times article, the doctors point out the war on drugs had lead to massive incarceration and a low rate of recovery.

They state in the article that the “persistent and potent crisis of substance use deserves a thoughtful, coordinated and science-based response.” The doctors point to other options used in different countries as potential pathways to exiting a vicious cycle that sees those needing help jailed instead.
