On June 19, 2021, Senior Fellow Jalyn Radziminski spoke at Juneteenth celebration at the Shrine Building in Warsaw, IN. The event was organized by One Warsaw.
Jalyn is a voting rights advocate from Fort Wayne, and was one of four speakers to address the event attendees and discuss the importance of Juneteenth as a new federal holiday.
In her speech, Jalyn explained why the emancipation of slavery should be celebrated:
“I know there’s a lot of debate in education right now to make sure our full history is shown more accurately so I think Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday is really important,” Jalyn said. “It’s really important for us to acknowledge our entire history so we don’t repeat history.”
