Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellows gathered to debrief the violent January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol and the implications this assault has had on the future of democracy–an assault fueled by conspiracy theories and former US President Donald Trump himself. In the words of Humanity in Action Executive Director Judith Goldstein, “Now more than ever, it is critical to be in touch and to share views about the political, social, economic, and cultural pressures on our societies. The Alfred Landecker Democracy Fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
