Recently, Humanity in Action was honored with a $10,000 donation to the organization, made by the estate of Joan Ringelheim, who sadly passed away on October 22, 2021. Humanity in Action is deeply grateful for the gift.
Joan was key in starting Humanity in Action and remained deeply involved with the organization after its founding. Joan met with fellows at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) each year, joining them one year as they traveled to Poland. Even after retirement and in poor health, Joan made time to hold a conversation on her book, Companion: the Strange and the Familiar, with many Humanity in Action Senior Fellows this past spring. We also used two chapters of the book as opening texts for American Fellows in our 2021 annual program.
Joan was an inspiration to so many of us, a dear friend, and taught so many valuable lessons throughout her life. We are profoundly appreciative for this gift and the opportunity to continue her legacy.
