Fellows, Senior Fellows, Board members, supporters and friends of the organization came together in New York City to explore the statuses of democracy and human rights in the United States on the state level.
This conference focused on “The State of the States”: it surveyed public policy issues across a diverse group of US states. Even though national politics dominate public debate, much of the battle for democratic freedoms, equality and human rights is on the state level. We will explore both political progress and retrenchment – such as California’s leadership on immigration and climate as well as trans rights and “bathroom bills” in North Carolina and Texas. The event will feature keynotes, breakouts and a Senior Fellow reunion dinner.
The conference was generously hosted by The New School for the fifth year.
