Senior Fellow Assembly

The Senior Fellow Assembly plays a key role in connecting Humanity in Action’s 3,000+ alumni. The Assembly will serve as a space for Senior Fellows to share ideas, provide feedback, and help guide the organization. The Assembly will also work with the International Board of Directors, contributing to discussions around programs, fundraising, and alumni engagement—making sure the community’s voice is heard in shaping Humanity in Action’s future.

Senior Fellow Assembly members are expected to actively participate in two annual full-assembly meetings and quarterly committee meetings. Responsibilities include reviewing materials, participating in discussions, supporting alumni and organizational fundraising efforts, and promoting Humanity in Action among their networks. Members also serve on at least one committee—focused on programming, strategy, or fundraising—and contribute 1–2 hours monthly. The Assembly will also hold an annual community-wide meeting to gather insights, feedback, and ideas from Senior Fellows.

The Humanity In Action Senior Fellow Assembly will initially consist of three committees:

• Senior Fellow Engagement & Programming: Work with the Community Engagement Manager to shape programming for the Senior Fellow network and help support the fellows’ budget. Feedback and ideas will be shared as needed, based on current issues and questions. The Committee Chair will also join the HIA International Board Program & Senior Fellow Committee.
• Fellowship Programs & Strategy: Share advice and input with the Board’s Program & Senior Fellow Committee on fellowship programs, new topics, and innovative ideas. The Committee Chair will represent this group on the HIA International Board Program & Senior Fellow Committee.
• Fundraising, Partnerships, and Development: Partner with staff and the Board Development Committee to advance the financial stability of the organization by contributing to fundraising and resource development efforts.The Fundraising Committee Chair will serve on the HIA International Board Development Committee.

The Assembly is composed of up to 14 Senior Fellows from diverse backgrounds, chosen through a nomination and election process. Eligible candidates must be committed to advancing Humanity in Action’s mission and willing to dedicate the time and effort required to serve effectively. Terms are for two years.

Serving on the Senior Fellow Assembly allows participants to shape Humanity in Action’s alumni engagement strategy, contribute to the development of impactful programs, and contribute to the organization’s financial sustainability. It also serves as valuable training for non-profit board service and deepens connections within Humanity in Action’s global network.

Nominations for membership are open until January 13, 2025, and can be submitted anonymously. After the deadline, nominees will be asked to complete a questionnaire to confirm interest through January 31, 2025, and candidates will be announced in early February.
