Alexis Harrell

Alexis Harrell is a racial justice researcher and artist in her third year at the University at Buffalo. She is committed to promoting asset-based narratives about minoritized communities through research and social practice. As a UB Presidential Scholar, Alexis created curricula for 600 computing students to understand racial bias within policing algorithms. She spearheads similar research as the President and Research Director of the UB Society and Computing Club. Alexis is also a Presidential Fellow at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress, where she will publish research on Democratic Presidents’ “tough-on-crime” rhetoric. In addition to research, Alexis led a service trip at her university focused on educational inequalities and currently serves as a Programs Coordinator for GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome achievement center. In the future, she plans to communicate her social justice research through photography, striving to increase the accessibility of the academic world.
