Crystal grew up in New York City, where she became interested in integration and assimilation. As the daughter of two immigrants, she is interested in the identities that form around immigrant populations and the influence of the state’s history and culture. She recently graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in history. Her focus was France in the twentieth century, with her senior thesis on the formation of black identity in interwar France. Her previous research experience includes women in civil law in France and Germany during the eighteenth century and the American revolutionary war in the Caribbean. She also spent a semester studying at Sciences Po. Paris, a political science university. She enjoys exploring different cultures through languages and travel. Depending on the progression of COVID-19, she will be in Colombia working with Venezuelan refugees as a Fulbright Fellow.
