Garrett Schaffel

Garrett is the Communications Manager for Humanity in Action, which he joined in March 2022. Originally from Washington, DC, Garrett studied at the University of Pittsburgh, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a concentration in contemporary popular culture. Following graduation, Garrett joined the newsroom of AARP The Magazine as an intern, and went on to hold a variety of roles as a journalist, editor, researcher and critic within the organization. In 2018, Garrett joined the staff of the American Postal Workers Union as a Communications Specialist, where he contributed to the union’s award-winning campaigns, including the successful fight to save the public Postal Service and protect democracy during the postal crisis in the summer of 2020.

Garrett is passionate about grassroots community organizing, particularly around the issues of climate change and ecological sustainability, and has contributed to a number of successful campaigns and efforts both locally and nationally.
