Born in New Jersey and raised in New Delhi, India, Joya is a rising senior at Columbia University majoring in history with a particular interest in early-modern Jewish history. She also studies music and enjoys composing. Since high school, Joya has been involved in various types of social work, from engaging visually-impaired children in sensory activities to helping low-income, high-achieving high school students with their college applications. In her free time, Joya loves to sing and is the musical director of Columbia’s premier a cappella group, the Columbia Clefhangers.
