Lulu Mickelson is a public servant committed to building more just, responsive, and inclusive communities. As the Director of Housing Security Initiatives at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, Lulu works on eviction defense and homelessness prevention initiatives that help local renters stay housed. This includes overseeing the implementation of more than $500 million in federal COVID-19 emergency funds, advocating for local and national legislative solutions, and learning directly from low-income renters on how to improve city services. Previously, Lulu was at the New York City Department of Housing. Lulu has also worked at the Rockefeller Foundation and the NYC Department of Small Business Services.
In all her pursuits, Lulu seeks to center joy, acknowledge past harms, and challenge traditional power structures by centering impacted residents as experts and leaders. Lulu draws from a background in human-centered design and grassroots community organizing. Lulu attended Barnard College, Columbia University. She lives in California with her partner Ben and two adorable cats, Missy and Po.
