Article

Rosana Hanif is the International Operations Director and U.S. Admissions Manager for Humanity in Action, Inc. She graduated from Silberman School of Social Work in May of 2021 where she earned her Masters in Social Work (MSW) with a concentration in Clinical Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups and field of practice (FOP) specialization in Criminal Justice. She previously received her Bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice where she received honors in her major, Law and Society, and minored in Anthropology. As both an advocate and academic, she completed the Jewish Foundation of Education for Education of Women (JFEW) Summer Scholar Fellowship and the Pinkerton Community Undergraduate Fellowship. Both of which she describes as pivotal experiences in shaping her career.

Prior to this role, Rosana worked in various nonprofit criminal justice settings, such as exalt youth, the Legal Aid Society, and the John Jay College Institute for Justice and Opportunity formerly known as John Jay’s Prisoner Reentry Institute (PRI). Together these experiences identified a dual functionality to serve on both the developmental and programmatic levels of an organization. An example of this would be the quarterly newsletter that Rosana developed entitled, Our Voice, during her time at PRI that bridged together the voices of College Initiative (CI) and Prison-to-College Pipeline (P2CP) students. Lastly, her experience has influenced her research interests in women of color’s access and accessibility to the health care system, Raise the Age/transfer laws within youth justice, and restorative justice practice amongst youth.
