Saijai Liangpunsakul

Project Director

Article

Saijai works at the intersection of technology and human rights. When she moved to Myanmar in 2014, Myanmar was at the start of a change – the country was just coming online. Her work focused on using technology as a force for civic engagement and democracy. She helped Myanmar’s government set up a national mHealth system to combat maternal mortality.

Amid a surge of COVID-19 cases, accessing reliable election information was difficult. Saijai led a team to design Dr. Thuta Covid information platform, an election platform that enables millions of people to access reliable information. After the coup, she was part of the team to set up Myanmar Witness, an open-source investigation unit to document human rights abuse. In 2021, she investigated the Thai military’s use of Twitter.

Saijai was a Mason Ford Fellow at Harvard Ash Democracy Center. When not in front of a computer, she can be found in a kitchen, experimenting with new recipes, or taking a long walk searching for birds.
