Born and raised in New York City, Samuel (Sam) Appel recently graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in African American Studies and minor in Jewish Civilization. In addition, Sam has taken a number of classes in economics. Last fall, he finished his thesis on the NAACP and how its African- and Jewish-American affiliates (dis)agreed over controversies concerning Zionism and Israel over the course of the 20th century. Apart from academics, Sam has assisted low-income residents of D.C. in finding housing and jobs through a local community center, participated in student government and debate club while also interning with the House of Representatives. This fall, he is pursuing a MTS at Harvard Divinity School and, afterwards, a JD from NYU.
