Ulrike Poppe was born in 1953. After two years of university education she quit and had several occupations and began her activity in oppositional movements. In 1983 she was imprisoned by the “STASI” for six weeks. Until the fall of the wall she worked in various oppositional movements and groups. For her work she was repeatedly awarded, in 1995 she received the Federal Cross of Merit of Germany. Presently, she is Commissioner of the German State of Brandenburg for the Reappraisal of the Consequences of the Communist Dictatorship.
