Zain Salam Assaad was born and raised in a small town in the west of Syria before relocating to Germany in 2016. Currently, Assaad is pursuing a Master’s degree in Global Studies, split between Berlin, Buenos Aires, and New Delhi, funded through the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

Assaad brings insights from their background in media and communication studies, working as a freelance journalist and translator, with a focus on topics such as LGBTIQA+ rights, migration, and digital trends. Assaad contributed a monthly column titled “Hypertext” to Missy Magazine, addressing socio-political issues. Additionally, they are involved as a discourse curator for the “Balance Club / Culture Festival” and the community project “Softer Spaces” in Leipzig. They also contributed an essay to the re-edition of the German bestseller anthology Eure Heimat ist unser Albtraum on political loneliness.
