EDVACAY Fellowship

1. Nine-day Education and Skills Development Training

Over the course of nine days, speakers explore topics related to human rights and democracy, identities, nationalism, dialogue, activism, and help participants develop their communication and research skills. The program agenda is created as a balance between lectures and workshops, putting particular emphasis on practical assignments that the participants successfully complete.

2. Individual Research

This allows participants to explore the issues more broadly connected to existing obstacles hindering the effective participation of youth in their local communities, and to explore the examples of discrimination and violation of human rights among young people. Mentors are be assigned to participants, who are able to offer guidelines during the research process.

3. Three-day Project Management and Advocacy Training

This component of the program gives the participants an opportunity to present their individual research, but also to develop project and financial management skills. During this module, the participants divide into four groups and work together to develop project ideas addressing some of the issues identified as “problematic” during their research phase. At the end of the training, each group has a civic campaign project proposal written, approved, and ready for implementation with the funds received from Humanity in Action Bosnia and Herzegovina.

4. Implementation of Civic Campaigns

Participants have three months to implement their civic campaigns and to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the previous phases of the program.

5. Media Promotion of the Implemented Campaigns

With the help of an assigned Media Mentor, participants take part in media and social network promotion of their implemented campaigns.

6. Closing Ceremony and Debate Tournament

The outcomes of the civic campaigns is presented at a public event in Sarajevo, where participants use multimedia presentations to demonstrate the ability of young people to bring about positive change in their communities. The program continues with debating tournament as a permanent program component to further hone participants’ critical thinking and presentation skills.

During the period from December 2023 to March 2024, the participants worked on policy briefs which consisted of the following parts: an introduction followed by the description and focus of their research, three comparative examples from other communities or countries that have implemented a successful solution of the analyzed problem, and finally a conclusion with recommendations for solving the problem. • Dani prijateljstva (Ajna Mujagić, Ines Dedić, and Ivana Janko) – The UN General Assembly proclaimed the International Day of Friendship in 2011 with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. The resolution places emphasis on involving young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity. Individual Research

During the period from December 2018 to March 2019, the participants worked on policy briefs which consisted of the following parts: an introduction followed by the description and focus of their research, three comparative examples from other communities or countries that have implemented a successful solution of the analyzed problem, and finally a conclusion with recommendations for solving the problem. Based on the provided guidelines, the participants chose research topics which delineate a wide spectrum of their interests. The research topics are as follows:

Group Civic Campaigns

• BiH in Motion (Ajla Keško, Hata Kujraković and Tajra Hadžić) – a short film about the journey to selected destinations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, showing its natural beauty through the use of sign language, promoting inclusion and equality in the growing tourism industry in BiH. • Hate Speech in Sports Fields (Danijel Rajić, Tarik Veispahić and Marko Mutić) – a twenty-minute long documentary film with interviews of fans and club representatives, demonstrating how politics, ethnicity and religion easily find their way into different types of sports. • Heroes from the Shadow (Emir Zukić, Minja Čulić, Selma Čatibušić and Haris Osmanović) – a book of 14 personal stories gathered by interviewing the actors themselves, “selected” by their good deeds, advocacy for the community, and impact they made on other persons lives. GO TO CIVIC CAMPAIGN PAGE
• Talk to Me (Nejra Lilić, Aida Kauković, Selma Rajkić and Nusejba Hadžić) – a traveling interactive exhibition of photographs aimed to show and compare the lives of children refugees from Middle East currently residing in BiH to lives of children refugees from BiH escaping the 90’s war.
