In his latest opinion piece published by the Montreal Gazette, Senior Fellow Noam Schimmel argues that “the lack of political will to prosecute alleged participants in genocide was and remains an affront to all Holocaust survivors.”

In fact, “Canada continues to fail to bring them to justice in violation of its legal commitments to the UN 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide,” Noam explains.

As good practice, Noam mentions Ontario, which has recently moved to mandate Holocaust and human rights education to the “Grade 6” curriculum.

According to Noam, it is essential that these education efforts address Jewish and Roma life and culture before and after the Holocaust. This way, Canadian students can better appreciate these individuals and communities targeted during the Nazi genocide, Noam claims.
