RAISIN Artist Talk with Gloria Talamantes

Details

Article

Landecker Democracy Fellow Asha Iman Veal has joined forces with the 6018 North experimental arts and culture space in Chicago, where her new exhibition titled RAISIN will take place this fall. This exhibition is a partner project of the Chicago Architecture Biennial 2021 and will feature over 30 tremendous artists.

Aside from the exhibition itself, Asha is organizing several accompanying events. One of these will present a RAISIN exhibition artist Gloria Talamantes, who in 2005 founded The Brown Wall Project, a “citywide public art initiative to beautify Chicago’s neighborhoods against brown buffed walls.” These walls constantly remind us that many neighborhoods remain isolated, forgotten or even unsafe. More information about Gloria Talamantes and the event can be found here.

This live conversation takes place on Zoom on September 24, 2021, with a rebroadcast on Lumpen Radio. SAIC Being a Woman of Color in the Arts class will moderate the event. Registration is required and available via this link.

For more information about the RAISIN exhibition at 6018 North House Museum, which runs from September 17 through December 18, 2021, please visit here.

Asha Iman is one of thirty Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
