Pianist/composer Andy Milne (BFA, York University; Banff Centre for Fine Arts), a member of the teaching faculty at the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School, has been an important and respected figure on the New York jazz scene for over 20 years. He has recorded and toured throughout the world with Ravi Coltrane, Ralph Alessi, Carlos Ward and Carla Cook; performed with a wide range of legendary artists, including in the M-BASE Collective as a core member of saxophonist Steve Coleman’s bands and with Cassandra Wilson and Greg Osby; composed and produced scores for documentary films by director William Shatner; and released nine recordings as leader or co-leader.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and commissions, including the prestigious Civitella Fellowship, and he was voted Rising Star Keyboardist by Down Beat magazine (2004). In addition to teaching at The New School, he also teaches at NYU and Columbia, and he is the Assistant Director at the School for Improvisational Music.
