Hayley Simpson is a social science researcher, budding organizer, and nature lover from the southeastern United States. Simpson works at the intersection of behavioral change research and movement building, with a special interest in the social and emotional benefits of nature connection for marginalized youth. Simpson has worked with The Nature Conservancy of New York, The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, and the rural-Washington-based Glacier Peak Institute in research and outdoor education capacities. They are an outreach coordinator with East Tennessee Environmental Educators and the founder of the UT Environmental Coalition, a student collective working towards fossil fuel divestment in Appalachia. They are also a member of Women’s Coordinating Council, an intersectional feminist and queer inclusive organizing group, and recently completed their thesis in psychology investigating masculine gender norms and conservation attitudes. In their free time, Simpson enjoys hiking, working on screenplays, and yoga.
