Kulsoom Rizavi is an aspiring social scientist and documentary filmmaker from India. She is currently a student at Duke University where she studies Computer Science, Political Science (Data Science and Decision Theory concentration) and Cinematic Arts. Her interest lies in infusing her technical capabilities in the realm of media and the social sciences to create impact-based projects. She is especially passionate about issues of surveillance, censorship, and immigration. Her documentary projects have won several awards such as the International Jury Award at the United Nations PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival, and the Koonz Human Rights Prize. She has previously worked with the International Crisis Group, creating media on conflict prevention. Currently, she is covering the stories of glacier funerals in Iceland, Mexico, and Oregon and conducting quantitative research into the issue of internet shutdowns in Kashmir.
