Leilani (she/her) is a researcher, arts professional, singer, and current M.A. candidate in Performance Studies at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She holds a BA in Public Policy Studies from the University of Chicago (AB 2017, Phi Beta Kappa). Her current work and practice explores the relationships between voice, sound, self/community, collaboration, and liberation. In 2020, alongside Chicago’s #LetUsBreathe Collective, she curated The People’s Choir, a series of online gatherings led by artist-activists who use collective singing in their practices. She has presented experimental work at the Smart Museum of Art and Breathing Room Garden in Chicago as part of the placekeeping initiative In ℅ Black Women. She is also a member of the Chicago-based vocal ensemble, Co.operative.
