Loïc Michels has lived in the Netherlands his entire life. He was raised in the small town of Deventer but has lived in the urban west for the past few years. He finished his bachelor’s in Liberal Arts and Sciences in The Hague, but now lives in Rotterdam, trying to make it as a freelance journalist. His major in college was in Human Diversity, which he also investigates in his journalism: how different cultures establish relate to one another in society, with a particular focus on Islam. Although Loïc feels very comfortable in the Netherlands, he holds a great interest for the Western Balkans and Turkey, having spent a semester in Istanbul. His proudest takeaway from that time is that he can now name 10 consecutive Ottoman sultans in chronological order.
