Rosa Smits is a social and environmentally engaged artist who specializes in textiles. She was born and raised in a small town in the southern part of the Netherlands and is now based in Amsterdam. Rosa graduated in 2018 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in the TXT department, which focuses on a study combining textiles with text writing and philosophy. Her work often introduces new, alternative ways of working together. Textiles became her medium to connect people and to show that inclusivity is within reach if we are willing to take everyone included in a process into account. Rosa now works as a freelancer, giving various textile workshops at a sustainable ‘makers place’, de Steek, as well as at a center for disabled people. She also has worked in set design and collaborated at H401, a center for research, art and dialogue. Rosa aims to keep exploring and building up her practice of art and research.
