Siddik Bakir is Director of the Oil and Gas Division in Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy. Prior to that, Sid worked as a Senior Oil Market Analyst at Saudi Aramco – the world’s largest publicly listed company. Before that, he was a Senior Energy Analyst for the Middle East and South Asia at IHS in London – a US-based data analytics consulting firm.

Sid’s professional career began as a political assistant in three parliaments: in the House of Lords in London, in the European Parliament in Brussels as Humanity in Action-Pat Cox-Fellow and in the US House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. as Humanity in Action-Lantos-Fellow. Sid also worked as researcher at Royal Dutch Shell and Chatham House in London where he assisted experts in energy analytics.

Sid holds three academic degrees: an MPhil Master’s in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, where he received a full Weidenfeld scholarship; a GDL Law degree from BPP Law School, London, and a B.A. degree in Political Science and Oriental Studies with a minor in Economics from Ruhr-University Bochum where he received a scholarship by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.

In his free time, Sid sits on the Board of Trustees of the AMAR International Charitable Foundation in London chaired by Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne with HRH The Prince of Wales as Patron. The charity is providing health care and education to underserved communities in war and conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa.

Sid is a member of a number of international fellowships and networks: a Senior Fellow of Humanity in Action since 2005, a Young Leader of the German-US Atlantik-Brücke since 2008, an alumnus of Oxford University’s Weidenfeld Fellowship since 2009, a member of Wilton Park’s British-German Forum since 2011 and Robert Bosch Stiftung’s German-Turkish LikeMinds Forum since 2013. Sid grew up in Germany’s idyllic city of Hattingen, commutes between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, is married and has two daughters.
