Senior Fellow Antonio Lopez voted into East Palo Alto City Council

Senior Fellow Antonio Lopez was voted into the East Palo Alto City Council early November 2020. Although a victory seemed unlikely the beginning of election night, Antonio was able to win after late votes were counted. He is one of several democratic socialists who were able to win against well- funded incumbents across the Bay Area of California. With the help of grassroots campaigns, activist groups, unions. and other community movements, progressives were voted into city councils, largely by low-income people who are confronted with increased rent and living costs due to gentrification.
