Senior Fellow Mariana Karkoutly, together with a group of Syrian activists in Berlin, is co-organizing a demonstration and artistic intervention campaign to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Syrian revolution.
Over the past 10 years, there have been countless human rights violations committed against Syrian civilians. Nearly half of Syria’s population has been displaced, either internally or forced to seek safety abroad.
The campaign, titled #CallForAction, brings attention to the most poignant events of the last 10 years as well as the resilience of Syrian civilians fighting for justice.
This project is in collaboration with الجمهورية  al-Jumhuriya, an online writing platform that is assisting with the curation of the most relevant events of each year. #CallForAction features work from artists Salina Abaza, Salam Alhassan, Tammam Alomar, Abu Malek Al-Shami, Diala Brisly, Zena El Abdalla, Alaa Hamameh, Noah Jad, Razan Sabbagh, and Tamer Mallak.
Through this intervention, artists and sponsor organizations are calling for the public to support nine Syrian initiatives worldwide that work on education, empowerment for women and first aid. These organizations are: Basmeh & Zeitooneh, Zeltschule e.V., Eyes of Syria, Women Now For Development, Hurras network, 15th Garden network, Action For Hope, @Caesar Families Association, and Emergency Response Team.
There will be coordinated action in cities throughout Europe, including but not limited to Berlin, Munich, London, Bergen, Dublin, and Oslo.
