Landecker Senior Fellow Dr. Asha Shajahan is often invited by various news channels to share her thoughts on current Covid related developments. Recently, she was interviewed for local FOX networks across the United States as well as Yahoo News about the likelihood of one catching Covid twice.
In these articles, Asha explains that even people who had covid in the past are not in the clear. “If you’ve had one strain, you certainly can get a different one,” Asha adds. However, the “general rule of thumb is the more severe one’s infection was, the more immunity they might have,” this FOX 2 Detroit article claims.
Asha also commented on the “extremely contagious” omicron variant, and recommended a surgical mask – even if one has just recovered from Covid.

Asha was further quoted in this Michigan Live article, which discusses how long after having Covid one should get vaccinated. According to this report, people who received “monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma” should delay a Covid vaccine for 90 days. “The reason for that is that your immune system is not functioning at its highest capacity,” Asha explains in the article.
Asha is one of thirty 2020-2021 Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
