An article about Landecker Fellow Christiana Bukalo was published in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The article details Christiana’s platform www.Statefree.world and the impetus behind her initiative.

In the piece, Christiana reflected on the challenges stateless individuals face when traveling and the lack of transparency around the documentation needed. She outlined her own attempt to visit Morocco on holiday and how she was denied entry at the Moroccan border because she lacked special visas. The entire situation could have been avoided if Christiana knew about these special visas in advance but the embassy she contacted ahead of her journey never responded.

Knowing she was not alone and that these processes were not straightforward for most, Christiana founded www.Statefree.world as a forum for stateless individuals and people with unclear citizenship to exchange information and advice. In addition to the website’s strategic purpose, it serves as a digital community for individuals who have previously felt isolated when navigating their stateless identities.
