The gap between stateless people and statelessness research

Details

Article

Landecker Fellow Christiana Bukalo published an article in the University of Melbourne Law school’s Critical Statelessness Studies Blog Series. In it, she describes closing the gap between Stateless People and Statelessness Research. She explains there is a lack of a concrete definition and understanding of statelessness. The research that is out there is not organized and may be based on subjective assumptions. Additionally, it is not clear as to whether or not the nonprofits and institutions that work on statelessness research actually consult with stateless people. This disjunction in the research being done and the actual stateless population led Christiana to start her website, statefree.world. The site focuses on communication in the field of statelessness. She aims to connect and empower the stateless community.
