Article

Landecker Fellow Noufel Bouzeboudja recently wrote an article entitle ‘Citizen Journalism, a powerful tool to empower people” on his Medium page. In the short write up, Noufel unfolds the power of citizen journalism.

Over the last decades, our technological devices have become vital tools in our everyday life. Through its influence on our lives, citizens have began using technology as a tool to transmit information.

In today’s media world, information, messages and experiences are not only communicated by professional journalists anymore, but also by our society. Rather than sticking to the role of receivers, technological advances have changed our role within contemporary journalism, allowing us to become transmitters, commentators, podcasters, and content creators.

For Noufel, “[citizens] are necessarily contributing for the consolidation of democracy within their communities, their countries and also in the whole planet.”

Through his article, the Landecker Fellow unfolds the concept of citizen journalism by using example of the phenomenon within the 2010 Arab Spring and the 2018 Yellow Vests movement in France.

For more information on citizen journalism, you can find Noufel’s article on this Medium page.
