The New York Times published an article discussing the new “ANTI-ICON” art project of Martine Gutierrez, which is on view from August 25 to November 21. According to the New York Times, it “features a cast of goddesses, queens and other powerful women from across history and mythology” and will be “landing on 300 bus shelters in New York, Chicago and Boston.”
When asked to comment on the author’s work, Landecker Fellow Asha Iman explained that “Martine fights transphobia, she fights colorism in ways that are really serious but also with this kind of glamour and humor.”
The article is available here.
Beginning in September, Asha is curating her own exhibition, a collaboration with over 30 artists that explores local and global perspectives on home. It will take place at 6018 North in Chicago as a partner project of the Chicago Architecture Biennial 2021.
Asha Iman is one of thirty Landecker Democracy Fellows. This fellowship, a collaboration between the Alfred Landecker Foundation and Humanity in Action, was created to strengthen a new generation of leaders whose approaches to political and social challenges can become catalysts for democratic placemaking and community building.
