Landecker Fellow Asha Iman Veal’s new art exhibition, RAISIN, brings together local and global arts through an exploration of the themes from “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry.
In this article by Natalie Moore for Wbez Chicago, the exploration of the different artists is described. Each explores topics of home. These pieces are set within an apartment that reflects that of the Younger family.
The article further processes how a play that was racist was so highly successful, including in its Broadway adaptation. “There was the thought about Black Americans at that particular history and time as being a force of rebellion or resistance against a large American capitalism,” Asha Iman explained in the article.
