Article

Barbara Joannon is a Humanity in Action Senior Fellow (2013 Lyon Fellowship and 2014 Pat Cox Fellowship in Brussels). She has been active in the migration sector since 2012. As a student she conducted research on the role of migrants as development actors on one hand and on the inclusion of migration into the SDGs on the other hand. She also volunteered for several non-for-profit organizations to promote migrants’ rights and provide them with legal and administrative support. After graduating in international relations from the Institute of Political Sciences in Lyon in 2014, she has started her career as the Europe Advocacy Officer for a French NGO that supports asylum seekers and refugees and subsequently became the Head of EU Affairs. After three years she decided to work as an independent consultant and carried several missions for NGOs and institutions involving strategic counselling, project management, advocacy and capacity building. In 2019, she went to Ukraine to work for the UNHCR as an Advocacy Officer for the Protection Cluster where she discovered the humanitarian sector. She returned to France in late 2019 and has continued working as an independent consultant on migration and protection. Barbara currently works on several projects including Désinfox-Migrations that fights against fake news on migration related topics in the French public debate. She is strongly committed to this issue which evolves at the crossroads of other fields of interest to her such as human rights, geopolitics and social justice.
