Maryam Khalil is a Libyan-American aspiring physician and recent Stanford graduate with a B.S. in Human Biology, Anthropology, and Honors in International Security Studies. Her honors thesis, “The Impact of De Facto Refoulement on the Health System and the Most Vulnerable in Libya,” explored how forced returns affect healthcare access and outcomes for displaced populations. As a 2024–25 Fulbright Schuman Scholar, she is conducting research on healthcare provision and migration policy across the European Union, focusing on forced displacement and carceral systems. Affiliated with LUISS University in Italy, she volunteers with Baobab Experience and is learning Italian. Affiliated with the University of Athens in Greece, she volunteered with The Home Project, the Victoria Community Center, and Medical Volunteers International. Maryam is committed to trauma-informed, community-rooted care and aims to build a medical career advancing equitable healthcare policies and transformative models for people on the move and marginalized communities worldwide.
