Senior Fellow Jelena Barac was just 16 years old when she participated in a conflict resolution workshop that shaped her future ambitions. The workshop helped her better understand conflicts and inspired her later work in conflict resolution. Many teenagers in Jelena’s community lacked the communication skills that would help them understand and deal with the conflicts that they face in their everyday lives.
Jelena’s Action Project, Conflict Resolution Workshop, offered a different perspective on conflict. It dealt with conflict as a necessary evil and gave some basic skills for de-escalation and communication to avoid misunderstandings.
Jelena researched conflict and organized workshops at her old high-school.
During her workshops she found that “students were an inspiration, they are open and excited about learning new things and participating in interactive games.”
