Exhibition and Art Auction

Commemorating October '43 and supporting present-day civil action

Bjørn Nørgaard – La Paix 2015

In 2018 Humanity in Action Denmark and Daily Newspaper Politiken, arranged a month-long exhibition commemorating the 75th anniversary of October 1943.

28 artists, including Björn Nørgaard and Peter Brandes, donated art pieces. Their work reflected on the Danish aid to Jews in Denmark seeking safety in October 1943.

The art auction made it possible for Humanity in Action Denmark to establish the October ’43 Travel Grant for extraordinary young people working in the fields of Human Rights.

“For the next 10 years, the October ’43 Travel Grant will call upon us to combine the message of the past with the challenges of current human rights and minority issues.”

– Anders Jerichow, initiator of the exhibition and grant, previous Chair of Humanity in Action Denmark.
