Since its origins, democracy has been a work in progress. Today, many question its resilience. The Bertelsmann Foundation and Humanity in Action have teamed up with Andrew Keen, author of How to Fix the Future, to launch How to Fix Democracy: a video and podcast series exploring practical responses to the threats facing democracies around the world. Host Andrew Keen interviews prominent thinkers, writers, politicians, technologists, and business leaders who enlighten and challenge us as we seek the answers to How to Fix Democracy.

Here he speaks with Contanze Stelzenmüller, Robert Bosch Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, to discuss how domestic problems have led to disruptions in foreign policy.

“We have seen a move from a framing of neoliberalism globally competition and cooperation to one of great power competition,” Constanze Stelzenmüller remarks in discussing how domestic issues have turned international allies into rivals. She analyzes many aspects including German pride, Brexit’s misfiring of blame for socioeconomic issues and the political status of United States. She believes that “our generation is genuinely being asked to be architects of our fate” in facing our current challenges.
