On April 25, 2021, Executive Director of Humanity in Action Judith Goldstein moderated “Conscience and Courage: Frances Perkins and Dr. Feng Shan Ho – Little Known Heroes Who Save Lives“ as part of the Frances Perkins Center’s virtual Public Policy Forum: Immigration/Refugee Policy. The discussion focused on how Frances Perkins and Dr. Feng Shan Ho used ingenious strategies, in the face of strong opposition, to provide tens of thousands of Jews a means of escape from the Holocaust in Europe.
“Conscience and Courage” featured Keynote Speakers Bat-Ami Zucker and Manli Ho. Zucker is a historian and Professor Emerita of Bar-Ilan University in Israel. Ho is a journalist and biographer of her father Dr. Feng Shan Ho, Consul-General of China in Vienna 1938-40.
Humanity in Action was a co-presenter of the forum. Judith is a Board Member of the Frances Perkins Center. Other Forum co-presenters included: Bates Jewish Student Union, Bates College Harward Center for Community Partnerships, Bowdoin Hillel, McKeen Center for the Common Good at Bowdoin College, Colby Hillel, Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine, The Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine, Maine Jewish Museum, and Southern Maine Hillel.
